The Longines Masters of Hong Kong has over its past four editions been an inspiration for the next generation of the city’s equestrian champions as the world’s best riders come to town each year to show off their skills – and to show these youngsters just how far hard work and dedication can take you in the sport.
This year – for the very first time - the Longines Masters of Hong Kong will give these potential local stars the opportunity to showcase their own considerable talent as selected members of the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s Junior Equestrian Training Squad (JETS) will compete in their own events, the HKJC Junior Challenge and the HKJC Junior Trophy.
Set up in 2008 – following the successful staging of the Beijing Olympic equestrian events in Hong Kong - the JETS programme has since been nurturing the future of equestrian sports in the city, through the provision of training to the next generation of elite athletes.
Past editions of the Longines Masters of Hong Kong have featured Master Classes hosted by the world’s top riders and giving them a chance to share the wealth of knowledge – and skills - they have gathered with the city’s young riders. This year, fans will get to see these rising stars put what they’ve been learning into practice. The HKJC Junior Challenge on Saturday and HKJC Junior Trophy on Sunday will give local fans a chance to see just how far these young riders have come – testing them under the bright lights across a specially designed course - and it will, of course, ensure there is a Hong Kong champion to cheer during the course of the weekend’s action.
