The best show jumpers and the best jockeys
What makes The HKJC Race of the Riders so unique is also what makes it so utterly enthralling. The competition pairs four of the world’s top jockeys with four of the world’s top show jumpers, and then tests their skills over a jumping course. It’s familiar territory for the equestrian stars, but entirely new for the jockeys.
Nonetheless, this is where the jockeys, who after all ride in one of the world’s most competitive racing jurisdictions, show their mettle. Under the guidance of their show jumping partners, they are put through their paces before the main competition begins. Bonds form quickly, as does trust, as “teachers” guide their “pupils” to new equestrian heights.
Up for the challenge
The HKJC Race of the Riders pits teams of two riders across two rounds with seven jumps per round, each in a relay format. The top two teams – taken on total time including penalty seconds and time corrections – then qualify for the final.
